Safari time in Tanzania

One of the perks of teaching in the Middle East is the large amount of holidays throughout the year.  One of them is a week-long break for Eid, or festival, that celebrates the sacrifice of Abraham.  We have long desired to go on a safari in Africa, a true bucket list item for us, and we were told October was an ideal time so we scheduled a trip to Tanzania for this trip of a lifetime.

Our guide was excellent and we saw all of the Big 5.  We were fortunate to see hundreds of lions and many dozens of lion cubs, often very close to our vehicle!  We had a cool encounter with a couple of cheetahs, from just a few feet away for over 15 minutes.  Another highlight was a thirty minute period we spent surrounded by over 15 giraffes and we just watched them interact with one another playfully as they grazed from the treetops.

We explored the Serengeti, Tarangire National Park, and the indescribable Ngorongoro Crater!  The trip was one we will never forget!

Just after landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport!

This was our guide, he was awesome!

Ngorogoro Crater was one of the most majestic places we have ever been!
