Copenhagen, Denmark

After we left Santorini we began our quick European vacation with a long layover in Copenhagen, Denmark that enabled us to spend several hours exploring the beautiful downtown area.  We covered about 12 miles on foot and saw most of the major/recommended tourist sites.  It was an amazing day and a beautiful city, though it was very cold considering we were there at the beginning of summer.  The temperature was perfect, though, for a day of walking around the city!  Additionally, Joe would like to say that we were very impressed with the Copenhagen airport - one of the cleanest and most well designed airports either of us has ever been in.  Extra points for having an easy to use metro line that gets you to the beautiful historic city center in 15 minutes!

The famous Tivoli Gardens!

There were lots of peculiar/awesome sculptures all around the city!

These were some of Joe's favorites!

One of the things Copenhagen is known for are the underwater statues that are found throughout the city.  Creepy or cool?  You be the judge!

The waterfront homes were more beautiful in person than we can describe

We visited the palace and happened to catch the changing of the guard, it was really fascinating!

Lots of grand architecture!

A magnificent old church

One of the most famous sites in Denmark, the little mermaid!

We were close enough to touch it!

They are proud of their Viking heritage

And, of course, the Irish are everywhere!
