After our time in Europe, we returned home to spend a precious two weeks with friends and family while waiting for our Chinese visas to process. We had planned on spending a week or so in Texas and then ten days in Indiana, but due to visa delays we spent most of the time in Houston trying to get everything taken care of. It was good to spend some quality time with some of our closest friends, the Chavez family, and we also got to spend time with Michael and Dawn Doiron, good friends from Kuwait that are now back in Houston. We were able to see a couple of great Rangers/Astros games and had excellent seats provided by good friends! Joe was able to catch up with a couple of his students and coworkers from his time at Houston Christian and we also made it to Baytown to see our close friends Kade, Angie, Kayden, and Karis.
A sad moment came when we sold our car on our last day in Texas. Joe bought Lindsay her 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee brand new for Christmas in 2011 and we have driven quite a few miles all over the country in it. It was Lindsay's favorite car and she teared up as we drove away from the lot where we sold it. We held on to it for our two years in Kuwait, but decided that continuing to pay for a car we didn't use wasn't wise. When we return we will have to replace it with something similar, whenever that day comes.
We only had a couple of days in Indiana once our visas were processed, so we split the time between hanging with family and packing. We didn't get to spend as much time in either place as we hoped and we are looking forward to a much longer summer in the States in 2016!

Greece round 2!
We had such an amazing time in Greece during 2014 that we decided to return this summer. Being able to hang out with some of Lindsay's family for part of our time in 2014 convinced us that we wanted to fly her parents over and show them Greece as well!
The trip was amazing and it was so fun to share a little bit of our adventurous life with Frank and Becky Carr! Our plan to spend a couple of days touring Athens before a week in Santorini was made a bit more lively by the fact that Greece was in the midst of its terrible financial collapse! Greece was the center of the world's attention and we saw signs of that everywhere we went. One night while we were sleeping, Frank and Becky ventured out late to soak up the Greek and European lifestyle. They found themselves at ground zero of the Greek anarchist movement. They saw a lively protest that was stopped by riot police with tear gas! Yes, they were tear gassed themselves a bit - and they loved it! Lindsay was a bit troubled by this, being worried about her folks, but they enjoyed the experience!
We did run into some trouble getting cash from ATMs and using credit cards during our stay, but we managed to have the trip of a lifetime. We saw the sights of Athens, spent time on the beautiful beaches of Santorini, explored the entire island on four-wheel ATVs, ate delicious Greek food, and went on one of the most breathtakingly beautiful all-day hikes you could imagine. It was an extraordinary trip and one of our favorite memories ever!

For this trip we took the all day ferry from Athens to Santorini in order to see a few more islands |
There aren't many views that beat this one in Oia, Santorini! |
Sunsets at the lighthouse are the best on the island!! |
One day we hiked to Ancient Thira on top of the mountain. The views were incredible and the wind was unbelievable! |
They were timid at first, but it didn't last long! |
One of our favorite days included a long hike from Fira to Oia. The views are breathtaking! |
Loved the hike, but happy to be finished! |
Best gyros you'll ever have |
How can you NOT be grateful in a place like this?!? |
